Services Offered
Pickup Service
The New Hamburg Thrift Centre does provide a complimentary pickup service for its donors. This service will apply only to items that are too large to be transported in a standard size car/van, mainly furniture items. As well, all items must be in a good state of repair and free of rips, stains, or pet hair.
Pickup appointments can be made by contacting the store at 519-662-2867. A requisition form will be completed at that time and our Receiver designate will respond to make arrangements. Normally, pickups are completed within two weeks of making a request but do depend somewhat on regular truck routing. Please be advised that items for pickup must meet the acceptance criteria. If the article for pickup does not meet these criteria, an explanation will be offered by the driver.
Our pickup range is roughly within 20 km of the Thrift Centre.
Delivery Service
Delivery service is offered for a fee. A request for delivery, complete with payment, is made at time of sale. The Receiver will follow up with a phone call to confirm the timing of the delivery.

Charitable Receipting Guidelines
It is possible to receive a charitable receipt for certain donations.
We are owned by MCC, a registered charitable organization. All surpluses from the sales at the New Hamburg Thrift Centre are forwarded to MCC. In order to qualify for a receipt, the donation must be a single item, which will sell at the Thrift Centre for a minimum of $100. It is possible to combine certain items to form a lot which may sell in excess of $100. Examples of this would be the components of a bedroom suite combining to sell for over $100 or the same may apply to a dining room suite, etc.
To apply for a receipt, the donor needs to discuss the matter with a store manager who retains the right to price the article based on past experience. The donor needs to complete the form entitled “Special Donations Program” and a receipt will be issued in due course assuming the sale exceeds $100.
Receipts will be issued only after the item is sold.
Silent Auction Guidelines
The management of the New Hamburg Thrift Centre will place certain donations, deemed to be unusual or special in some way, on silent auction. To be eligible to participate in the auction potential bidders must complete a Silent Auction Bid Registration Form and be assigned a one time bidder number. This is the number a bidder will use to place bids. The following guidelines apply:
- Bids are placed in the silent auction bid register. This book is close to the check-out counter.
- Bids will be accepted in increments as follows:
- Bids up to $50. require a bid increment of $2.00.
- Bids from $50. to $100. require an increment of $5.00.
- Bids over $100. require a bid increment of $10.
- Bidding will continue until six business days have passed without any new bids. The successful bidder will be the person registering the highest bid.
- Telephone bids from registered buyers will be accepted if the bidder has already entered a previous bid on the particular item.
- Successful bidders will be notified by telephone. Items will be held for one week for pick-up by the purchaser. Payment must be made at the time of pick-up.
- All bids are binding. Bids may not be crossed out or changed without consultation with the shop manager.
- All sales are final.
In the event that a bidder does not honour his/her final bid, he/she will be informed that should a second such violation of policy occur, the Thrift Centre will no longer accept silent auction bids from that customer.
